This CPR/AED course provides students the highest quality training in the lifesaving skills of CPR and how to use an AED. Empowers students to act with confidence in the event of an emergency at work, home, or in the community. After successfully completing this course, students will be able to: *Recognize when someone needs CPR *Describe how to perform CPR with help from others *Demonstrate giving effective breaths by using mouth to mouth or hands only CPR *Demonstrate performing high-quality CPR for an adult and a child *Demonstrate using an AED on an adult and on a child *Describe when and how to help a choking adult or child At the conclusion of the CPR portion of the course, we will also review the techniques for recognizing the symptoms of anaphylaxis and the use of an Epi-pen. **Participants will receive a CPR/AED certificate good for two years.
Introduction to Ethnic Studies pedagogy, practices, and approaches to teaching in elementary school. This training will be used as an educational think tank to find the most effective strategies through critical collaboration with elementary school teachers to successfully implement Ethnic Studies curriculum and pedagogy in Grades 5-6.
Come learn how to incorporate movement for enhanced learning, memory, improved test scores, and better classroom management. This session will focus more on Pair/Share & small group work as well as sharing strategies, challenges, barriers, and more so that educators are well informed with strategies to incorporate movement into their classrooms in the Fall and beyond. Attendees will benefit from the SMART goals workshop geared for individual movement and health outcomes so that they can pair their movement/exercise routines with their nutrition/meal planning to stay healthy and fit this upcoming school year! Principles of Wellness and Mindfulness will be shared with attendees in this data-driven and science-based approach to mindfulness. Breathing & relaxation techniques as well as connecting the nutrition and movement principles will be reviewed/introduced in this session as attendees learn how to incorporate mindfulness and wellness practices into their classrooms and individual lives. Studies and research show that having a mindfulness practice in your life dramatically reduces symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression, weight gain, inflammation, and many other measurable health markers. This session is geared not only toward staff health, but the health and well-being of our students as well. Additionally, this session will include how best to utilize the new wellness centers and specialists present in many of the schools in CVUSD for the 2022/23 school year and beyond.

Using proven techniques such as using immediate and subtle corrective actions, behavior expectations and the modeling of those expectations; we can transform any classroom into a positive learning space. During these three hours, you will see real life demonstration as well as hear feedback from others on what has worked for them. Parent engagement through positive communication can be very helpful for all teachers and administrators.
